Are you familiar with Cerradeira?

Cerradeira is the new journal of the Graduate Program in Social Anthropology at The Federal University of Goiás, UFG.

Our mission is to share knowledge, expertise, scientific and academic productions in social anthropology and to collaborate in the production of a situated anthropology that articulates localized, embodied, and diasporic knowledge.

Cerradeira marks the position and movement of creating, expressing, and circulating anthropological knowledge of international, national, and regional scope, oriented toward pluralizing and provoking epistemological and political changes in anthropology more broadly.

The name Cerradeira refers to the craft, the place, and the context of the production of anthropological knowledge. The journal positions ethnographic practice alongside the crafts of women from the Cerrado, such as the babaçu coconut breakers, drawing inspiration from how their journeys and immersion in the Cerrado inform their craft, or way of living and creating.

Just like the work of women who work as woodworkers, embroiderers, healers, babaçu coconut breakers, cooks, and lunch ladies, we think of anthropological writing as a slow, organic craft that is resistant to academic productivism.
